Base44 builds an app from a chat conversation. You describe what you want in plain language, and it generates the frontend, backend, database and authentication, then hosts the result immediately, no separate deploy step. On top of the core builder it ships one-click integrations with tools like Google Calendar, Slack, HubSpot and Salesforce, an SEO and content dashboard for the apps you launch, and “Superagents,” AI agents meant to carry out workflows on a user’s behalf rather than just generate screens.

Wix bought the company in 2025 and now runs it as its own product line, separate from the core Wix website builder.

Who should use it

Founders and product teams who need a working prototype, internal tool or customer portal fast, and who are comfortable that the code underneath stays mostly out of view. It fits dashboards, CRUD-heavy internal apps and MVPs meant to test a market before anyone commits to a real engineering build.

What stands out

The origin story is unusual even by vibe-coding standards. Maor Shlomo built Base44 alone, took no outside funding, reached $1 million in annual recurring revenue within three weeks of launch, and sold the company to Wix for $80 million about six months after founding it, with an additional $90 million on the table if it hits revenue milestones through 2029. That track record is likely why Base44 now has enterprise customers like eToro alongside solo builders.

The credit system is where things get uneven. Message credits cover your prompts and integration credits cover the automations you wire up, but Trustpilot reviewers report the AI running in loops on its own mistakes, with each fix billed against the same monthly pool as the original request. That pattern is the main complaint behind the platform’s 2.8-star average.

The platform’s security got a public test too. In July 2025, a month after the Wix deal closed, Wiz Research found that Base44’s registration and email-verification endpoints would issue a verified account for any private app if you supplied only its app_id, a value exposed in the app’s own URL and manifest file. Base44 shipped a fix within 24 hours and reported no evidence of exploitation, but the flaw is a concrete example of the access-control gaps vibe-coding platforms are still working through.

The verdict

For a founder who needs a working app this week and can accept that the underlying code stays mostly opaque, Base44 delivers fast, and the free tier is generous enough to find out whether that trade works for you before spending anything.

Two things are worth weighing before you commit to a paid plan. The credit system charges you again for every AI mistake it makes correcting itself, which is the recurring complaint behind the low Trustpilot score, and annual billing locks in a price that Trustpilot reviewers say has been hard to get out of. If what you are building will hold real user data or payments, treat the 2025 authentication bypass as a reason to get a security review before launch, not evidence the platform is unsafe by default. If you already write code, the credit meter will make you feel every debugging round in a way a normal editor never does.
